Don Wood

Donald Wood has studied piano privately under R. Rowe and K. Bosworth of Ridgefield, Connecticut; music at Shorter College in Rome, Georgia; and teaching at Western Connecticut State College in Danbury, Connecticut.
A teacher with 29 years of experience, Don has taught privately as well as at:
- Clinton Piano & Organ, Groton, Conn.
- Clavier Music, New London, Conn.
- Caruso Music, New London, Conn.
- Dolphin Community Center, U.S. Navy, Groton, Conn.
- Subase Youth Center, U.S. Navy, Groton, Conn.
Of music, Don says that:
“Music is not a peripheral frill but rather an integral part of our lives. We do not court our loved ones, bury our dead, or celebrate life’s great occasions without music. Beyond being a wonder in its own right, music is the foundation of ballet, and it is indispensable to filmmaking. Where would James Bond be without his menacing four note ostinato? Who can ever have seen, and then forgotten, the scene in “Casablanca” in which the French citizens and German officers simultaneously sing “La Marseillaise” and the “Wacht am Rhine”?
“Music is the most democratic of all arts. Only the super rich can afford a Rembrandt or a Monet. In the world of music the masterpieces of Chopin, Beethoven and Hayden are available to all.
“In so many ways music is important to our lives, and to art forms beyond its own immediate realm. Like skiing or sailing, music makes some demands of those who would take part, but the person who makes the effort moves from the status of spectator to that of participant, and is well rewarded for the effort made.”
