Josh Vara

I graduated from Waterford High School where I attended music theory classes, composition classes and was an active member of the Jazz band. Recently I graduate of Manchester Community College with an Associates Degree in Music. I have participated in a couple local bands, and have some recording experience as well.
I’m into all types of music, including rock, jazz, blues… and more. Over the summer I studied privately in several contemporary/ear training music courses with a Berklee music graduate. I’ve studied the techniques of Jaco Pastorius, Victor Wooten, John Myung, and several of the other techniques performed on bass guitar: fretless, 4/5/6 string, slapping/popping, tapping, plucking, picking, harmonics, chords, strumming, palm muting, walking bass, and more!
My goal as a teacher is to help you get to where you want to be, and beyond. One of the most important facts is understanding your role as a bass player; all the information being taught helps you achieve that understanding. Most of what I teach are just guidelines, so if you have questions never hesitate to ask! So if you need help getting started, I’ll be more than willing; if you already have some knowledge, see what else is out there; if you just want to make music and play songs, I ’m always here.
Making music isn’t something that always needs to be taken seriously; it’s supposed to be fun so have a good time! And if you think lessons aren’t your thing, give it a try!
